HAIR CARE IN SUMMERS
Hair loss is one of the most distressing conditions as it affects one’s appearance. Shedding 50-100 strands of hair a day is a natural growth cycle and this loss is replaced regularly in healthy individuals.

Summer spells doomsday for one’s hair. Just as the sun damages the skin, it damages the hair too. The UV rays dry out hair and rough up the cuticle or the outer layer of the hair shaft.
FRIZZ FACTOR: As the humidity levels rise, the irksome frizz shows its presence. Dry hair soaks up the extra humidity in the air, causing the shaft to swell up and leading to breaks in the cuticle.
SWIMMING DAMAGE: The chlorine strips the hair of its natural protective oils.
A dip in the ocean has its side effects too. The salt content in seawater draws out moisture from the skin and hair, leaving them dry and parched.
TIPS FOR HEALTHY AND GORGEOUS HAIR IN SUMMERS:
- Get trim and get rid of split ends
- Use hair care products that contain UV filters prior to stepping out in the sun. Also, use wide-brimmed hats as protection.
- Saturate your hair with oil or leave-in conditioner before swimming.
- Rinse your hair after a swim.
- Avoid chemical treatment of hair as the chemicals attract dust and other pollutants, making hair rough and tangled.
- OIL MASSAGE: Gently massage your scalp with lukewarm oil an hour or so prior to washing. Oil Massage increases blood flow to the hair follicles and helps the growth of healthy hair.
- Wash your hair regularly with a moisturizing shampoo to prevent the build-up of dust and grime.
- Use a gentle conditioner to prevent frizzy hair.
- Do not tie wet hair.
- Use a wide-tooth plastic comb for wet hair and avoid hair brushes.
- Do not use hair sprays or gels as they stick to the scalp.
- Do not dry hair roughly. Gently towel dries your hair. Use the blow drier as less as possible, at a low heat setting.
- DIET: Have a healthy diet rich in Vitamin C and E, protein, and calcium. Include fruits such as blueberries, cherries, plums, pears, lime, and tomatoes in your daily diet.
- Avoid refined foods such as white bread and sugar.
- Eat fewer red meats and more lean meats, fish.
- Increase intake of tofu, beans, olive oil.
- Avoid stimulants like alcohol, coffee, tobacco, etc.
- Drink 6-8 glasses of filtered water daily.
